Working Women: Time Management Tips for Work at Home Moms Part 1

It can be tricky trying to balance work and family under the same roof - but with a few smart time management tips, you can perform the balancing act with ease!

Tip #1

A good day planner is essential for all work at home moms. It doesn’t matter if it’s on your computer or on paper – all that matters is that it is easy to follow and you use it.

Start by blocking your and scheduling family time first. These dates and times usually aren’t as flexible, so it’s important to get these down first. Then, you can schedule your work time around little league practices and dance recitals.

Tip #2

Group similar tasks together.

By grouping as many similar tasks together, you can better manage your time, and you can balance work and family life more efficiently.

For instance, try setting aside a block of time each week to run your errands and do your grocery shopping. Or try setting aside an hour or two each morning and afternoon to respond to work e-mails and return phone calls, and don’t forget to schedule some personal time even if it is for 3o minutes.

Tip #3

Don’t procrastinate by allowing yourself to get distracted!

As a work at home mom, it can be really easy to procrastinate. You walk to the kitchen to get a glass of water and you notice that layer of dust on the bookshelf, or that overflowing dirty clothes basket sitting by your kid’s bedroom door, and then all of a sudden your direction or intention shifts to something else.

Ignore them! Not forever…just for now.

Remember…set aside blocks of time for doing household chores and blocks of time for working. If it is a “working time” block, then the laundry and dusting will have to wait. Trust me, successful work at home moms know that sticking to this rule makes it much easier to get things done and find that balance between work and home.

Join me as I continue to share with you some great time management tips to help you perform the working woman’s balancing act without falling flat on your back.

You can have it all – and I’ll show you how!

Remember, if you shoot for the moon and miss, you are still among the stars!
